dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract13. yüzyılda Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli’nin Horasan'dan Hacıbektaş’a gelmesiyle birlikte, Bektaşilik soyut bir kavram olarak Hacıbektaş’ta doğmuş, daha sonra Balım Sultan Erkan namesi ile somutlaşarak bir tarikat haline gelmiş ve Hacıbektaş ilçesi de Bektaşiliğin merkezi olarak kabul görmüştür. Tekke ve zaviyelerin kapatılmasına kadar Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli dergâhı bu öğretinin anlaşılıp yayılmasında etkili bir rol oynarken, kapatılma kararından sonra Bektaşiler bu öğretiyi kendi aralarında, evlerinde öğrenmeye ve sürdürmeye devam etmişlerdir. Bugün müze olarak kullanılan Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli Dergâhı Türkiye’nin en çok ziyaret edilen müzelerinden biri olurken, Hacıbektaş ilçesi için inanç, turizm ve ekonomi yönünden büyük bir önem arz etmektedir. Öte yandan Türkiye’nin birçok yerinde ve Arnavutluk, Makedonya, ABD gibi ülkelerde olduğu gibi, Hacıbektaş’ta yaşayan Bektaşiler de hem öğretinin özünü korumayı hedefleyerek hem de modernleşmeye ayak uydurarak bu tarikatın öğretilerini burada devam ettirmektedir. Türk-İslam değerlerini temel alan Bektaşilik tarikatı sevgi, saygı ve hoşgörüyü rehber edinip, kadınlara, eğitime ve kültüre verdiği değerle, bugün Hacıbektaş toplumunun hem ulusal hem de uluslararası alanda değer görmesini sağlamaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractBektashism was born as an abstract concept in the 13th Century, when Hacıbektaş-ı Veli arrived in Hacıbektaş from Horasan. Later on, materializing with Balım Sultan’s erkanname (the rule book) Bektashism became an order based in Hacıbektaş province in Turkey. Before the law for shutting down the dervish lodges was passed, Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli order played a key role in spreading the understandings and beliefs of Bektashism among people. After the law passed, they continued spreading the information amongst each other and through generations at their homes. Today, Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli Complex is one of the most visited museums in Turkey and it is still very important for culture, tourism and economy in Hacıbektaş province. Furthermore, Bektashis living across Turkey and in countries like Macedonia, Albania, and the United States of America carry on the tradition and the culture by not only preserving the core of Bektashi teachings but also keeping up with the modern world at the same time. Bektashi order, which is based on Turkish-Islamic values, respecting women’s rights, education, culture and embracing the teachings of love, respect and tolerance enables the Hacıbektash community to be looked upon both in the national and international arena in today’s world.en_US
