dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractTürkiye’de siyasi belgesel çekme çalışmaları Cumhuriyet’in ilk kuruluş yıllarından itibaren başlamakla birlikte 1978 yılında TRT bünyesinde Belgesel Programları Müdürlüğünün kurulması ile yeni bir ivme ve şekil kazanmıştır. TRT, Türkiye’de henüz yeni şekillenmeye başlayan belgeselciliğin gelişimi için duayen gazetecilerle çalışmalar yürütmüştür. Bu gazeteciler içinde M. Ali Birand şüphesiz ki ayrı bir yere sahiptir. M. Ali Birand’ın başlattığı 32. Gün Belgeselleri serisinde Türkiye’nin yakın tarihini geniş perspektiflerden inceleyen birçok siyasi belgesel çekilmiştir. Bunlar arasında Demirkırat: Bir Demokrasinin Doğuşu adlı belgesel ise daha önceleri konuşulması tabu sayılan konuların konuşulmasını sağladığı ve halkı geçmişiyle barıştırarak ortak bir paydada birleştirmeye vesile olmasıyla diğer belgesellerden ayrı bir yere sahiptir. Bu araştırmada, Demirkırat’tan önce Türkiye’deki belgeselcilik ve siyasi belgeselcilik bağlamı incelenmiş ve ardından araştırmanın merkezi konumunda bulunan Demirkırat belgeseli’nin üç yapımcısından biri olan Prof. Bülent Çaplı’nın da katkılarıyla beraber tüm aşamalarıyla kaleme alınmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe working process of shooting documentary films in Turkey have started in the earlier times of newly established Turkish Republic and this process gathered speed and shape with the help of TRT and its new constitution of Management of Documentary Programs. For freshly shaping development of documentarism, TRT has carried on works or studies with connoisseurs. Within these journalists, it can be considered that M. Ali Birand has space apart beyond any doubt. The series of Documentary of 32. Gün, which was started by M. Ali Birand, includes many political documents which are related to the broad perspective of the Turkish Republic’s recent history. Among these documentaries, Demirkırat: Bir Demokrasinin Doğuşu known as the one which helps people to break taboos about the matters that are considered as a no-fly zone. Also, it reconciles the citizens with their own history that it gives the opportunity to finding a common ground. Hence, with these reasons, it can be stated that this documentary has a different place and impact. In this research, the context of documentarism and political documentarism have examined and then the core of the research which is Demirkırat: Bir Demokrasinin Doğuşu has indited with its all phases under the favour of Prof. Bülent Çaplı who is one of the producers of the documentary.en_US
