In Turkey, syndicalism gained significant momentum following the 1960 coup, enabled by the labor and collective bargaining rights introduced with the Turkish Constitution of 1961. This period was pivotal in expanding union rights, marked by the active participation of blue-collar workers in the strikes of 1964 and then 1977. However, 1980 coup brought restrictive sanctions on unions, severely challenging many union structures. This study examines the impact of 1980 coup and the changes introduced by the Turkish Constitution of 1982 on union movements and the working class, using the Turkish Metal Union as a case study.
