dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractKöklü bir tarihe sahip olan ve Türk kültüründe önemli bir yere sahip olan güreş sporu geleneksel olarak yapıldığı gibi olimpiyatlarda da yer almaktadır. Mahmut Demir güreşin gelenek haline geldiği bir ailenin beşinci ferdi olarak doğmuştur. Profesyonel spor hayatı boyunca Türk Milli mayosunu 220 defa giyen Demir, 1996 yılında katıldığı Atlanta Olimpiyatlarından 28 yılın ardından ilk kez altın madalya ile dönmüştür. Şampiyonluğun ardından spor hayatını noktalamış ve çeşitli kurumlarda yönetici olarak görev almıştır. Bu çalışmada Mahmut Demir’in hayatı çocukluğu, profesyonel güreş hayatı ve spor sonrası hayatı olmak üzere üç bölümde ele alınmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractWrestling, which has a deep-rooted history and has a great importance in Turkish culture, takes place in the Olympics as well as being carried out traditionally. Mahmut Demir was born as the fifth member of a family in which wrestling has become a tradition. Demir, who wore the Turkish national jersey 220 times throughout his professional sports life, returned from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics with the gold medal for the first time in 28 years. After the championship, he ended his sports life and took charge in various institutions as a manager. In this study, Mahmut Demir's life is discussed in three parts which are his childhood, his professional wrestling life and his life after sports.en_US
