James Mellaart had pioneered many important excavations in Asia Minor such as the 1958 Çatalhöyük discovery. The allegations about him stealing the historically important objects or the items not belonging to the places where he claimed to be found, created scandals about his professionality in the field. Because of this situation, he was deported from Turkey and his return to participation in excavations in Turkey also became permanently forbidden. Besides Mellaart’s numerous contributions to archeology, the case of his name being involved in these kinds of scandals made him worth investigating. Generally, the main lines of archeologist James Mellaart’s work life and his involvement in illegal incidents are going to be examined in this article.en_US
