Türkiye’de yapılmış ilk modern fırkateynin hikayesi: TCG Fatih (F-242)

Abstract

Kıbrıs Harekâtı sonrası Türkiye’de artan savunma sanayi yatırımlarından donanma da etkilenmiş ve envanterine yerli ve yabancı birçok gemi katmıştır. Özellikle Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı sonrası Türkiye’ye yapılan ambargo Türkiye’nin mühimmat kaynağı olan ABD’den yeni silah ve teknoloji alamamasına ve bu nedenle bölgedeki rekabette geriye düşme tehdidi ile karşı karşıya kalmıştır. Bunun sonucunda çeşitli vakıf, kuruluş ve kampanyalarla yerli savunma sanayi yatırımları artmıştır. Bu sürecin sonucu olarak 1985 yılından başlayarak dört adet Yavuz sınıfı fırkateyn Track 1 projesi kapsamında donanmaya dahil edilmiştir. Gölcük tersanesinde üretilen TCG Fatih bu gemilerden üçüncüsü olarak 1987 yılında inşa edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada TCG Fatih’in inşası, teknik özellikleri, modernizasyon süreci ve misyonları incelenmiştir.

After the Cyprus Operation, the navy in Turkey was affected by the increased defense industry investments, and it added many domestic and foreign ships to its inventory. Especially after the Cyprus Peace Operation, the embargo imposed on Turkey resulted in Turkey not being able to acquire new weapons and technology from the United States, its main source of ammunition, leading to the threat of falling behind in competition in the region. As a result, domestic defense industry investments increased with various foundations, organizations, and campaigns. As a result of this process, starting from 1985, four Yavuz-class frigates belonging to the MEKO TN-200 family were included in the navy within the framework of the Track 1 project. TCG Fatih, produced at the Gölcük Shipyard, was built in 1987 as the third of these ships. In this study, the construction, technical specifications, modernization process, and missions of TCG Fatih have been examined.
