dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractKıbrıs Barış Harekâtı’nın ortaya çıkışı incelenirken gaziler gözünden harekâtın günümüzdeki yansımaları araştırılmaktadır. Harekâtta görev yapmış Çavuş Hikmet Baran’ın harekât öncesi, sırasındaki ve sonrasındaki hayatı incelenerek ve Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtının gaziler arasındaki sosyal ilişkilere ve aralarındaki dayanışmaya yansımasının bir sonucu olarak Sivas Muharip Gaziler Derneği’nin vizyon, misyon ve gazilerin savaştan sonraki hayata adaptasyonu sürecindeki etkileri araştırılmaktadır. Dernek aracılığıyla gazilerle röportaj yapılırken dernek oluşumundaki ortak bilinç ve kültür incelenmektedir. Sivaslı gazilerin hikâyelerini yaşatmak ve gelecek nesillere aktarmak, ayrıca savaşlarda büyük hikâyelerin yanı sıra sıradan insanların hikâyelerine de kulak verilmek istendiği için bu konu araştırılmaya değer görülmüştür.
dc.description.abstractWhile examining the emergence of the Cyprus Peace Operation, the operation's current reflections from the veterans' perspective are investigated. By examining the life of Sergeant Hikmet Baran, who served in the operation before, during, and after the operation, and as a result of the reflection of the Cyprus Peace Operation on the social relations and solidarity between veterans, the vision, mission of the Sivas Combat Veterans Association and its effects on the adaptation process of veterans to life after the war are investigated. While veterans are interviewed through the association, the ordinary consciousness and culture in forming the associations are examined. This subject was deemed worth researching because it was desired to keep the stories of Sivas veterans alive and pass them on to future generations, and to listen to the stories of ordinary people and the remarkable stories of wars.
