dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

Dünya Savaşı sonrası gelişmeye başlayan küresel turizm sektörünün Türkiye’deki yansıması, 1960’lı yılların başından itibaren önem kazanmaya başlayan turistik dinlenme tesisleri yatırımlarının başlangıcıdır. Türkiye’de bu konudaki ilk yerli girişim, Türkiye turizm tarihinde birçok ilke imza atan Orhan Ağaçlı tarafından Aksaray’da kurulan Ağaçlı Tesisidir. Bu araştırmada Orhan Ağaçlı’yla yapılan röportajlar başta olmak üzere birçok farklı kaynak kullanılarak Orhan Ağaçlı’nın iş ve özel hayatına ışık tutulmuştur. Ağaçlı Tesislerinin kuruluşu, kuruluş öncesi ve sonrası dönemlerine de değinilerek incelenmiş; Orhan Ağaçlı’nın girişimci yönü başta olmak üzere onu önemli kılan birçok özelliği mercek altına alınmıştır. Türkiye’nin turizm alanındaki en önemli girişimcilerinden birisinin hayatının incelenmesi, Türkiye’nin turizm sektöründeki tarihsel gelişimini anlamak konusunda da önemli bir kaynak niteliği taşıyacaktır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe reflection of the global tourism industry in Turkey, which started to develop after the World War II, is the beginning of the investments in touristic recreation facilities that started to gain importance since the beginning of the 1960s. The first domestic initiative in this regard in Turkey is Ağaçlı Facilities, which was established in Aksaray by Orhan Ağaçlı, who broke new grounds in the history of tourism in Turkey. This research aims to shed light on Orhan Ağaçlı’s business and private life by using many different sources, especially interviews with Orhan Ağaçlı. The establishment of the Ağaçlı Facilities, before and after the establishment, was examined with reference to the periods; Orhan Ağaçlı's many features that make him important, especially his entrepreneurial aspect, are scrutinized. Examining the life of one of Turkey's most important entrepreneurs in the field of tourism will also be an important resource for understanding the historical development of Turkey in the tourism sector.en_US
