Professor Nurettin Demir: A pioneer in Turkish IVF practice

This research paper seeks to understand how the work of Professor Nurettin Demir, one of the first doctors in Turkey to perform in vitro fertilization(IVF) procedures and the first to establish a private IVF clinic, impacted the acceptance and development of assisted reproductive technology (ART) in Turkey. Analysis of his upbringing and early career to the ramifications of his work in the areas of family planning and ART are the best tools for understanding the social and scientific changes in the field of IVF in Turkey,since Demir spent his careeras the pioneer and the primary defender of access to IVF.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, tüp bebek (IVF) yönteminin Türkiye'deki öncülerinden ve ilk özel IVF kliniğinin kurucusu Prof. Dr. Nurettin Demir'in üremeye yardımcı teknolojilerin (ART) Türkiyede benimsenmesindeki rolünü araştırmaktır. IVF metodunun ülkemizdeki öncülerinden ve savunucularından olan Prof. Demir'in kariyerinin çocukluk ve erken dönem dönemlerinden aile planlaması ve üremeye yardımcı teknolojilere üzerindeki etkisinin analizi buamaca yönelik en doğru adımdır.
