dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractSanayi devrimi sonrası ücretli işçi olarak çalışma hayatına katılan kadın iş hayatında erkeğin yanında ilk pozisyonunu almıştır. 1980 sonrasında toplumların refah düzeyinin artması ile kadınlar eğitim imkanlarına ulaşmış ve meslek sahibi olmuşlardır. Bu gelişme ile beraber profesyonel meslek hayatına giren kadınlar kendilerine çalışma hayatında yer edinmek için çaba sarfetmeye başlamışlardır. Ancak tarihsel süreç ile gelen toplumsal kabuller kadının öncelikli yerinin ev hayatı olduğunu vurgulamaya devam etmiştir. Erkek egemen toplumun yapısı ve ihtiyaçları üzerine inşa edilen kurumlarda kadın bir çok alanda ayrımcılığa uğramıştır. Bu ayrımcılığın nedenleri toplum ve örgüt yapısı ile doğrudan bağlantılıdır. Bu çerçevede bankacılık sektöründe kadın olmak ve bankacılık sektöründe uygulanan cinsiyet ayrımcılığının nedenleri ve ayrımcılığın uygulandığı alanlar mercek altına alınmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractAfter the industrial revolution, the woman who joined the working life as a paid worker took the first position beside the man in business life. After 1980, with the increase in the welfare level of the societies, women had access to education opportunities and became professionals. With this development, women who entered their professional careers began to make an effort to find a place for themselves in working life. However, the social acceptances that came with the historical process continued to emphasize that the primary place of women was home life. In institutions built on the structure and needs of the male-dominated society, women have been discriminated against in many areas. The reasons for this discrimination are directly related to the society and organizational structure. In this context, being a woman in the banking sector, the causes of gender discrimination in the banking sector and the areas where discrimination is applied are examined.en_US
