1980 darbesi sonrası Ankara’da sanat mekanları: Galeri Siyah Beyaz’ın hikayesi

Abstract

Türkiye, 1970'ler boyunca siyasi ve toplumsal baskılarla şekillenen bir dönem geçirmiştir. Özellikle bu dönemde sanatçılar, toplumdaki kutuplaşmaların etkisiyle, yaşadıkları güçlü duygu ve düşünceler ile isyankâr bir sanat üretmişlerdir. 12 Eylül 1980 darbesi ile birlikte baskılar ve sansür artmış, sanatçılar üzerindeki devlet kontrolü yoğunlaşmıştır. Bu yoğunlaşan kontrol ile daha isyankâr bir sanat anlayışı ortaya çıkmış ve sanatçılarda kendini gösterme, mesaj verme isteği de artmıştır. Darbe öncesi Ankara, sanat kültürünün zengin olduğu bir şehir olmasıyla beraber, darbenin ardından direnişin merkezi olmuştur. 1984'te kurulan Galeri Siyah Beyaz, darbe baskılarının ortasında sanatçılara özgürlük sunarak alternatif kültür üretimini desteklemiş ve sanatçılara sansür ve baskıya karşı bir sığınak, bir platform olmuştur. Bu dönemde alternatif mekanlar ve yaratıcı direniş ön plana çıkmıştır. Makalede, Siyah Beyaz’ın bu direnişteki rolü ve karşılaştığı baskılar ele alınacaktır.

Turkey went through a period shaped by political and social pressures throughout the 1970s. During this time, especially influenced by societal polarization, artists produced rebellious art reflecting their strong emotions and thoughts. With the 1980 coup on September 12, pressures and censorship increased, and state control over artists intensified. This intensified control led to the emergence of a more rebellious understanding of art, and artists' desire to express themselves and convey messages grew. Prior to the coup, Ankara was a city rich in art and culture, but after the coup, it became the center of resistance. Founded in 1984, the Siyah Beyaz Gallery provided freedom to artists amid the coup's pressures, supporting alternative cultural production and offering a refuge, a platform against censorship and repression. During this period, alternative spaces and creative resistance came to the forefront. This article will discuss Siyah Beyaz's role in this resistance and the pressures it faced.
