dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractHemşehri dernekleri geçmişten günümüze küçük kentlerden, büyük kentlere olan göçün somut kanıtı olarak varlığını sürdürmüştür. Hemşehri derneklerinin öncelikli amaçları arasında küçük kent yaşantısını bırakarak, bilmedikleri bir yaşama doğru yola çıkan insanlara yardım etmek ve kendi kültürlerini tanıtmak vardır. Ankara Burdurlular Derneği 1986 yılında, daha önceden de öğrencilere yardım etmek için kurduğu derneğin özlemiyle Ahmet Kavak tarafından kurulmuştur. Derneğin varlığını haberdar etmek için Burdur valiliklerine haber verilmiştir. Dernek yoğun uğraşların ve ekonomik yetersizliklerin arasında Burdurlu hemşehrilerine ulaşmış ve bugünkü durumuna gelmiştir. Burdurluların birlikte vakit geçirmesine olanak sağlayan bu dernek Burdur’dan Ankara’ya eğitim için gelen pek çok üniversite öğrencisine de umut olmaktadır. Derneğin kurucu başkanı ve sonraki yıllarda başkanlık yapmış Ankara’daki Burdurlu kişilerle yapılan röportajlar ışığında Burdur’dan Ankara’ya göç, hemşehri derneklerinin önemi, derneğin ekonomisi ve faaliyetleri, siyasetle ilişkisi ve Burdurlularla ilişkisi irdelenmiştir. Zorluklarla kurulmuş bir dernek olarak Ankara Burdurlular Derneği iç göç olgusu ve hemşehri derneklerinin gelişiminin birbirleriyle bağlantısının aydınlatılmasında yardımcı olacaktır.en_US
dc.description.abstractHometown associations subsist their existence as a concrete evidence of internal migration from small towns to major cities from past to present. Some of their primary goals are helping people who have left their small town lives to come a city that they do not know anything about and introducing their own culture. Ankara Burdurlular Derneği is founded by Ahmet Kavak, who has founded a similar society to help to students before, in 1986. To announce the founding of the association, news was given to the Burdur governor. After the economical insufficiencies and intense work, the association reached the citizens and came to today’s situation. The association, providing spending time together for people from Burdur, is the hope for university students who came to Ankara for education. With the interviews made with the founding president and next presidents of the Ankara Burdurlular Derneği, they are examined that migration from Burdur to Ankara, the importance of hometown associations, economy and activities of the association, correlation with the politics and the relationship with people from Burdur. Ankara Burdurlular Derneği as an association established with difficulties is going to help to clarify the relationship between the internal migration phenomenon and the development of the association.en_US
