dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractTürkiye’nin ilk buz pateni kulübünün kurucusu Fehmi Tekelioğlu’nun gönül vermiş olduğu buz pateni sporu, yıllar süren uğraşlara Türkiye’ye resmi bir şekilde tanıtılabilmiş ve Fehmi Tekelioğlu, Türkiye’de buz pateni sporunun günümüz şeklini alabilmesinin temel nedeni haline gelmiştir. Fehmi Tekelioğlu, buz pateni sporunu Türkiye’ye resmi bir spor olarak tanıtma yoluna girmiş ve bu alanda tıpkı yabancı devletler gibi yetenekli isimler yetiştirmek adına ilk buz pateni kulübünün kurulmasını sağlamıştır. Buz pateni sporunun Türkiye'de altyapısının oluşturulmasıyla birlikte, buz pateni branşı Türkiye’de günden güne daha resmi temellere dayanan bir statü kazanmaya başlamıştır. Önceleri bir geleceği olduğuna inanılmayan ve bu nedenle diğer spor dalları kadar talep görmeyen branş, şimdilerde buz pateni sporcuların elde ettiği pek çok önemli başarının ışığında gelişmeye ve daha büyük kitlelere hitap etmeye devam etmektedir. Araştırmada, Fehmi Tekelioğlu’nun Türkiye’ye buz pateni sporunu kazandırma süreci ve bu sürecin, şu anda buz pateni sporu alanında faaliyet gösteren sporculara sağlamış olduğu imkânların daha detaylı bir şekilde incelenebilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Her şeyin başlangıcına imzasını atan isim Fehmi Tekelioğlu’nun, Türkiye’ye buz patenini tanıtırken izlediği yollar daha detaylı bir şekilde ele alınmak istenmiştir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, buz pateni sürecinin Fehmi Tekelioğlu önderliğinde nasıl geliştiği ve günümüzde ki haline nasıl evirildiği hakkında net bir şema oluşturulmuştur.en_US
dc.description.abstractFehmi Tekelioglu, the founder of the first ice skating club in Turkey, officially introduced the sport of ice skating to Turkey to many years of hard work and became the main reason why the sport of ice skating in Turkey can take its current form. Fehmi Tekelioğlu started to introduce ice skating as an official sport to Turkey and ensured the establishment of the first ice skating club in order to train talented names like foreign states. With the establishment of the infrastructure of the ice skating sport in Turkey, the ice skating branch has started to gain a status based on more official foundations in Turkey day by day. The branch, which was not believed to have a future before and therefore was not as demanded as other sports branches, continues to develop and appeal to larger masses in the light of many important successes achieved by ice skating athletes. In the research that has been done, it is aimed to examine in more detail the process of Fehmi Tekelioğlu's bringing the ice skating sport to Turkey and the opportunities this process has provided to the athletes currently active in the field of ice skating. The path followed by Fehmi Tekelioğlu, who put his signature to the beginning of everything, while introducing ice skating to Turkey, is intended to be discussed in more detail. For this purpose, a clear diagram has been created about how the ice skating process developed under the leadership of Fehmi Tekelioğlu and how it evolved into its current shape.en_US
