The period between May 27, 1960 and September 12, 1980 was a turbulent period for Turkish politics as different ideologies emerged and the military intervened in politics at every opportunity. During these years, the lives of military personnel and civilians, as well as politicians, were adversely affected. One of the people who actively engaged in politics during this period was Osman Nuri Canpolat, a Turkish senator originally from the Caucasus. He entered the Senate from the Justice Party in 1968 and remained active in politics until the 1980 Turkish coup d’état. The primary sources consulted in this study are Zürcher's Turkey: A Modern History, parliamentary minutes, newspapers of the period, and interviews with Canpolat's wife and daughter and the family archive of Canpolats. With this research, it is planned to explain this turbulent process of Turkish democracy and its social base from a different perspective through individual experiences.
