dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractSovyetler Birliği’nin dağılmasının ardından bir göç hareketi başladı. Türkiye’nin Antalya kentine fazla sayıda göçmen yerleşmesi sonucunda bölgede kültürel anlamda değişimler meydana geldi. Sovyetler Birliği’nden gelen göçmenlerin bale alanında bilgin ve yetkin olması Antalya bölgesinde baleye olan yaklaşımın değişmesine ve balenin popülerliğinin artmasına yol açtı. Böylelikle Antalya’da bale kültürü değişti. Sovyetler Birliği’nden gelen bale göçü Antalya bölgesinde göçmenlere istihdam yarattı. Onlara yeni imkânlar ve fırsatlar sundu. 25 senedir Antalya’da bale öğretmenliği yapan Julia Tedeshvili bale göçmenlerinden biriydi. Zaman içinde Antalya bölgesinde Türk ve Rus birçok öğrenci yetiştirdi. Türk öğrencilerin Rus akımına alıştırılmasında öncülerden biri oldu. Çalışma Julia Tedeshvili ile röpörtaj ve dönemin dergileri, gazeteleri ve günümüzün akademik makaleleri incelenilerek derlendi. Birliğin dağılması sonucu oluşan göç dalgasının Antalya’nın sanatsal ve kültürel yönelimine etkileri incelendi.
dc.description.abstractAfter Soviet Union had collapsed, there had been an immigration movement towards Turkey especially Antalya region. Excessive amount of immigrants that settled in Antalya led to changes in culture. Immigrants deep knowledge and ability on ballet had an impact on region. Therefore, both attitude towards ballet changed and its popularity increased in the region. Thus this led to a change in the ballet culture of Antalya. This immigration generated employment to its own immigrants. Also new oppurtunuties were created. Julia Tedeshvili, who has been working as a ballet teacher for 25 years, was one of the aforementioned immigrants. She has raised many students both Turkish and Russian in Antalya. She became an important figure of introducing Russian style ballet to Turkish students. The study was compiled by interviewing 3 Julia Tedeshvili and analysing the magazines, newspapers and academic articles of the period. The effects of the wave of migration resulting from the dissolution of the Union on the artistic and cultural orientation of Antalya were analysed.
