dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstract1923 yılında doğan Kahraman Olgaç sporcu kişiliğinin yanında satranç sporuna yaptığı katkılarla tanınır. Pek çok satranç oyuncusunun aksine çok geç yaşta satranç oynamaya başlamış fakat buna rağmen Türkiye'de bu sporun kültürünün yaygınlaşmasına birçok kitap ve köşe yazısı yayınlayarak katkıda bulunmuştur. Türkiye Satranç Federasyonu'nun kurulmasına ve devlete bağlanmasına öncülük etmiş, böylece 1991 yılında Türkiye Satranç Federasyonu'nun ilk başkanı olmuştur. Bu yazıda Kahraman Olgaç'ın Türk satrancına katkılarından ve Türkiye Satranç Federasyonu'nun kuruluş sürecinden bahsedildi.
dc.description.abstractKahraman Olgaç, born in 1923 is a chess player who is mostly known for his contributions to chess in addition to his sportsmanship. In contrast to other chess players, he started playing chess late but in spite of this fact, he contributed to spread of chess culture in Turkey by means of publishing lots of chess books and newspaper articles. He was a pioneer in establishment of Turkish Chess Federation and making TCF an official federation under Sports Ministry. He also became the first president of Turkish Chess TCF in 1991. In this paper, Kahraman Olgaç's contributions to Turkish chess and establishment process of Turkish Chess Federation are examined.
