Being a western form of art, ballet was implemented to Turkish culture with the cultural reforms of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk as a westernization policy. In order to introduce this art form to Turkish art students, experienced ballet trainers and teachers were brought to Turkey from Europe and Russia. This way, Turkish ballet was academically systematized as the ballet became an acclaimed art major in Turkish conservatoire. Being one of the most important conservatoires in Turkey, Ankara State Conservatoire in Hacettepe University held an important role in the evolution of Turkish ballet. In this research, Hacettepe University Ballet Major Art Department’s academic and cultural impacts to Turkish ballet as well as the involvement of ballet in Turkish culture will be investigated.en_US
