dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractCoğrafi olarak üç kıtanın kesişme noktasında bulunan Türkiye’nin geniş tür havuzunda bulunan ürünlerden biri sadece Yunanistan’ın Chios Adası’nda ve Türkiye’de Çeşme Yarımadası’nda yayılış gösteren damla sakızı reçinesi veren sakız ağacıdır. Geçmiş zamanlarda Osmanlı İmparatorluğuna ürün sağlayan, lüks sofralarda yer verilen sakızın, yirminci yüzyılın başlarında Türkiye’de gerçekleşen imar uygulamaları, nüfus artışı, turizm alanlarının genişlemesi ile üretimi zamanla azalmış ve en sonunda tamamen durdurulmuştur. Sakız bitkisi ve reçinesi damla sakızının birden fazla alanda kullanıldığı görülmektedir. Bu ürünler gastronomi alanında yoğunlaşmakta olup kozmetik ve sanayide de Türk halkının günlük kullanımında yer edinmiştir. Sakız açısından zengin bir kültüre sahip olan Ege bölgesinde sakızın en yaygın üretim yeri olan Çeşme Yarımadası’nda sakızın tarihi, Ege bölgesinde sakızlı tatlılarıyla meşhur Ayvalık’ta kültürel bir değer haline gelmiş İmren Pastanesi’nin sakızlı tatlıları ile sergilenir. Türkiye’de ekonomik ve kültürel olarak değer taşıyan sakızın üretimi yirmi birinci yüzyılda yeniden harekete geçirilmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe mastic tree, which grows solely on Chios Island in Greece and the Çeşme Peninsula in Turkey, is one of the goods found in Turkey's huge pool of species, which is geographically placed at the junction of three continents. Mastic production, which was once offered as a product to the Ottoman Empire and was featured in lavish feasts, declined over time and eventually vanished with zoning policies, population increase, and the rise of tourism regions in Turkey at the beginning of the twentieth century. Moreover, Mastic gum and its resin are used in a variety of applications. These products are centered in the field of gastronomy and have a presence in Turkish people's everyday lives through cosmetics and industry. The history of chewing gum in the Çeşme Peninsula, which is the most common production place of chewing gum in the Aegean region, which has a rich culture when it comes to gum, is exhibited with the mastic gum desserts of Imren Patisserie, which has become a cultural value in Ayvalık, which is famous for its chewing gum desserts in the Aegean region. The production of chewing gum, which is economically and culturally valuable in Turkey, has been reactivated in the twenty-first century.en_US
