Türkiye’de ruh hastalıkları ve nöroloji bilimlerinin öncülerinden: Tuğgeneral Prof. Dr. Nevzat Akabay

Abstract

Tuğgeneral Psikiyatr doktor Nevzat Akabay, Türk psikiyatrisinde önemli bir yere sahiptir. Türkiye’de psikiyatrinin yayılmasına ve GATA’da bu alanda kürsünün kurulmasına önayak olan ekibin içerisindeki Nevzat Akabay, uzun yıllara dayanan tecrübesi ve bu tecrübelerini aktardığı kitapları sayesinde hem psikiyatri alanına hem de Türk toplumunun psikiyatriyle tanışmasına büyük katkı sağladı. Bu çalışmamızda, Nevzat Akabay’ın çocukluğu, Tıp alanına yönelmesi, bu alandaki eserleri, Gata’daki rolü, ve emekliliği olmak üzere bu önemli şahsın hayatı ele alınacaktır. Nevzat Akabay, tüm bu süreçte ise ülke genelinde psikiyatri ve nöropsikoloji alanında de ön plana çıkmaya başladı ve devlet desteği ile gittiği Amerika’da eğitim aldı. Avrupa standartlarının gerisinde olan Türkiye’de Freudcu bir bakış açısı getirdi, bu doğrultuda çalışmalara imza attı, GATA’da nöropsikiyatri kürsüsünün nöroloji ve psikiyatri olarak ayrılmasını sağladı ve önemli şahsiyetlere psikolojik destek verdi. Dikkat çekici olarak, bu gelişime rağmen vaka sıklığı ve çeşitlerinde yükseliş görüldü. Brigadier General Psychiatrist Nevzat Akabay has an important place in Turkish psychiatry. Nevzat Akabay, a member of the team that pioneered the increase of psychiatry in Turkey and the establishment of a chair in this field at GATA. Nevzat Akabay made a great contribution to both the field of psychiatry and the Turkish society to meet psychiatry, thanks to his long years of experience and the books he conveyed these experiences. In this study, Nevzat Akabay's life, including his childhood, his inclination to the field of Medicine, his works, his place in Gata, and his retirement, will be discussed. Nevzat Akabay started to come to the fore in the field of psychiatry and neuropsychology throughout the country throughout this process and received training in the USA, which set out with the support of the state. He brought a Freudian point of view to Turkey’s psychiatry field, which is behind European standards, contributed with his works in this direction, he also ensured that the neuropsychiatry chair at GATA was separated into neurology and psychiatry, and provided psychological support to important personalities. Remarkably, despite this improvements in psychiatry thanks to Nevzat Akabay and other remarkable people, there has been an increase in case histories and variations.
