dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractKırım'da Osmanlı-Rus Savaşı'nı Osmanlı Devleti'nin kaybetmesi sonucu başlayan sorunlar, Rus ordusunun 1771 yılında Kırım'a girmesinden itibaren Kırım Tatar halkının bir asırdan fazla sürecek bir göç sürecini başlattı. Sonrasında Kırım Savaşı'nda iyice artan göçler, Kırım'ın ve göç edilen ülkelerin demografik yapısının kökünden değişmesine yol açtı. Pek çok Kırımlı aile çeşitli zorluklarla önce Balkan topraklarına ve sonrasında da Türkiye'ye göç etti. Kırımlılar göç ettiği topraklara pek çok kültürel özelliği de beraberlerinde getirdiler. Geçen zamanla birlikte İstanbul ve Anadolu'daki kültürün temel ögelerinden biri haline geldiler. Kırım Savaşı sonucunda ana vatanından göç eden ailelerden biri olan Türer ailesi, geçmişiyle ve çeşitli bölgelere dağılmış aile bireyleriyle bu sürecin daha da iyi anlaşılmasına, Kırım Tatarlarının zorunlu göç tarihine ışık tutulmasına yardımcı olacaktır.
dc.description.abstractThe problems that started as a result of the Ottoman Empire's defeat in the Ottoman - Russian War in Crimea started the migration process of the Crimean Tatars which lasted for more than a century since the Russian army entered Crimea in 1771. Afterward, the immigration that increased more in the Crimean War caused the demographic structure of Crimea and the migrated countries to change radically. Many Crimean families emigrated to the Balkan territory and Turkey with various difficulties. Crimean Tatars brought many cultural features to the lands they migrated to, and in time, they became one of the fundamental parts of the society in Istanbul and Anatolia. Türer family, one of the families who migrated from their homeland as a result of the Crimean War, will help to understand this process better and shed light on the history of forced migration of Crimean Tatars with family members scattered in various regions.
