dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractZiraat Mektebi Osmanlının son dönemlerinde zirai eğitim vererek yurt genelinde modern yöntemlerle tarımı yaygınlaştırmak amacıyla kurulmuştur. Ziraat Mektebi uluslararası ilişkilerde tansiyonun yükseldiği bir dönemde kurulması sebebiyle kuruluş amacına çok kısa bir dönem hizmet edebilmiştir. Cumhuriyetimizin kurucu önderi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Ankara’ya gelişinde Ankara Valiliği tarafından kendisine tahsis edilen, o gün için atıl vaziyetteki Ziraat Mektebi’nde konaklamıştır. Bu araştırmada Ziraat Mektebi’nin Millî Mücadeleye katkı sağladığı dönem ile ilgili o döneme şahitlik etmiş yazarlardan ve bizzat Mustafa Kemal’in Nutuk eserindeki anlatımlarından ve Mektep üzerine yapılmış olan akademik araştırmalardan yararlanılmıştır. Konunun uzmanı olan akademisyenlerle yapılan röportajlar ışığında Ziraat Mektebi’nin Millî Mücadeleye verdiği katkı, kritik pozisyonu itibariyle taşıdığı önem ve araştırma sürecinde ulaştığımız birtakım anekdotlar ile Mektepteki durum anlatılmıştır. Millî Mücadele döneminde yaşanan imkânsızlıkları gözler önüne sermek açısından ve atıl vaziyetteki bir taş binanın mücadelenin kalbi olan bir karargâh olarak hizmet vermesi bakımından Ziraat Mektebi, Millî Mücadeleyi daha iyi idrak etmemizi sağlayacaktır.en_US
dc.description.abstractZiraat Mektebi was established in the final era of the Ottoman Empire in order to promote modern agricultural methods nationwide. Because Ziraat Mektebi was established in a period when international problems were rising, it could serve its founding purpose for a limited period of time. When Mustafa Kemal Atatürk visited Ankara, the Governorate of the city allocated to him the Ziraat Mektebi, which was an idle building at the time, for his accommodation. This research paper has benefitted from the sources written by those who witnessed the War of Independence Era; the Nutuk by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and other academic sources that emphasized the importance of the Ziraat Mektebi in the War of Independence. The paper also illustrates the Ziraat Mektebi’s contribution to the War of Independence in light of comments from scholars and experts, and various anecdotes related to the the building's importance. Taking into consideration the difficulties of the era, the use of an idle building as a headquarter and its decisive role in the struggle will help us better understand the War of Independence.en_US
