dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractÖrtülü Köyü, Erzurum ili sınırlarında yer alan, Allahuekber Dağlarının batı eteklerine kurulmuş, 1946 yılında Şenkaya adı ile ilçe olmuş bir yerleşkedir. 1920 öncesi dönemde Örtülü Köyü adına sahip olan yerleşke 93 Harbi Sırasında savaş tazminatı olarak Rus yönetimine bırakılmıştır. 1917 sonrası dönemde Rusların çekilmesi ile tekrar Türkiye Cumhuriyeti yönetimine geçen Örtülü Köyü’nün ilçe olması öncesinde, sürecinde ve sonrasında Hüseyin Köycü’nün projeleri ve fikirleri önemli yer tutmaktadır. Öyle ki, 1946 sonrasında ismi Şenkaya olarak değiştirilen yerleşkenin ilk belediye başkanlığı görevini de Hüseyin Köycü üstlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda, Köycü’nün fikirlerinin; Şenkaya’nın ilçe olması, ilçe olduktan sonraki süreçte temelleri sağlamlaştırma aşamaları ve günümüzde ilçe halkı üzerinde bıraktığı fikirsel etki çerçevesinde Örtülü Köyü’nün tarihçesine paralellik gösterdiği görülür. Özellikle eğitim, sosyal ve toplumsal düzlemde ve Hüseyin Köycü önderliğinde yürütülen kalkındırma politikaları ile ilçe oluş temellerini sağlamlaştıran Şenkaya günümüzde de Erzurum ilinin eğitim anlamında önde gelen ilçelerinden biri olarak varlığını sürdürmektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractÖrtülü Village is a place that renamed as Şenkeya in 1946 after being a formal distinct, located in the borders of Erzurum and settled on the western foothills of the Allahuekber Mountains. The place, which was known as Örtülü Village before 1920, left to the Russian Rule as a war indemnity of the 93’th War. In the process for Örtülü is being a formal distinct as well as pre- distinct period and post-distinct periods, which happened with re-domination of the Turkish Republic after Russian retire, the ideas and projects of Hüseyin Köycü takes an important place. In fact, he assumed the position of Şekaya’s first mayor after Örtülü Village renamed as Şenkaya in 1946. In this context, there is a parallelism between history of the Örtülü Kötü and the ideas of Köycü in terms of becoming a town of Şenkaya, strengthening the basis of the town and ideological effect on the society. Şenkaya, which is strengthening its basis as a town especially in terms of education, society and community, even today is protecting its existence as a leading education center in the city of Erzurum.en_US
