dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractModernleşmenin Osmanlı dünyasındaki yansımalarından biri imparatorluğun arkeoloji ve müzecilik ile yakından ilgilenmeye başlamasıdır. Buna bağlı olarak gelişmeye başlayan alanlardan biri ise nümismatiktir. Ancak nümismatik alanının gelişimi, bilhassa bu alanın antik nümismatik kolu, özellikle Cumhuriyet dönemiyle başlamaktadır. Bu bağlamda, çalışmamız geç Osmanlı’dan günümüze Abdüllatif Subhi Paşa, İsmail Galib, Halil Edhem, Clemens Emin Bosch, Sabahat Atlan, Nezahat Baydur ve Oğuz Tekin’in çalışmaları üzerinden alanın gelişim sürecinin bir muhasebesini yapmayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmanın asıl odak noktası ise bu süreçte önemli rol oynayan Oğuz Tekin’in hem Türkiye’de hem de yurt dışında antik nümismatik alanında önde gelen isimlerden biri olduğunu onun kapsamlı biyografisi özelinde vurgulamaktır. Tarihçi ve nümismat Oğuz Tekin’in kapsamlı ilk biyografisi bu çalışmada sunulmuştur.
dc.description.abstractArchaeology and museology stand out as the reflections of modernization in the Ottoman world. Correspondingly, numismatics can be regarded as one of the fields that started to develop. However, the development of numismatics, particularly ancient numismatics, corresponds to the Republican period. In this respect, this article tends to present the development process of this field from the late Ottoman Empire to the present by focusing on the works of Abdüllatif Subhi Pasha, İsmail Galib, Halil Edhem, Clemens Emin Bosch, Sabahat Atlan, Nezahat Baydur and Oğuz Tekin. The main point of this essay is to emphasize the fact that Oğuz Tekin, who played a crucial role in the said process, is one of the leading ancient numismatists in academic circles both in Turkey and abroad. Hence, the most comprehensive biography of Oğuz Tekin is presented in this article.
