dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractAraştırmanın merkezinde 1943-1948 yıllarında eğitimini tamamlamış Cılavuz Köy Enstitüsü mezunu Perihan Akçam bulunmaktadır. Cılavuz Köy Enstitüsü 1939-1954 yıllarında faaliyet göstermiştir. Amacımız ise 1950’li yıllarda kız öğrencilere sunulan eğitim atmosferi ve Köy Enstitülerinin eğitimde cinsiyet eşitliğine olan bakış açısını anlayabilmektir. Araştırmamızın kapsamında röportajını gerçekleştirdiğimiz Perihan Akçam Cılavuz Köy Enstitüsünden mezun olduktan sonra öğretmen olarak çalışmaya başlamıştır. Perihan hanım ile gerçekleştirdiğimiz röportaj köy enstitülerinin eğitim sistemini, kız öğrencilere sunduğu eğitim olanağını ve mezunlarının ülkeye kattığı değerleri anlamamızda öncü kaynağımız olmuştur.
dc.description.abstractThe general subject of the research is Perihan Akçam, a graduate of Cılavuz Village Institute who completed her education between 1943 and 1948. Cılavuz Village Institute was active between 1939-1954. We aim to understand the educational atmosphere offered to girls in the 1950s and the perspective of the Village Institutes on gender equality in education. Perihan Akçam, whose interview we conducted within the scope of our research, started working as a teacher after graduating from the Cılavuz Village Institute. Our interview with Perihan Hanım has been our leading source in understanding the education system of the village institutes, the educational opportunities they offer to girls, and the values their graduates add to the country.
