Örnek bir Cumhuriyet kadını: Türkan Seçkin

Abstract

29 Ekim 1923’te Cumhuriyet’in ilanı ile kadınlara seçme ve seçilme hakkı verilmesinin temeli atıldı, bu olay siyasette kadınların söz sahibi olmasına önayak oldu. 1965 seçimlerinde Edirne’den milletvekili seçilen Türkan Seçkin, ön seçimle seçilen ilk kadın milletvekili oldu. Milletvekilliği dönemi öncesi öğretmenlik yapan Türkan Seçkin’in eğitimci geçmişi faaliyetlerine ışık tuttu. Tarım, dış politika, kadınların sosyal hayattaki konumu, eğitim, ekonomi ve belediyecilik ile ilgili çeşitli soru önergeleri ve gündem toplantılarıyla adını siyaset tarihine saygınlıkla yazdırdı. Türkan Seçkin, eylemleriyle pek çok kadına toplumda söz sahibi olabilmeleri adına cesaret verdi.

On October 29, 1923, with the proclamation of the Republic, the foundation was laid for women to be given the right to vote and be elected, and this event paved the way for women to have a voice in politics. In the 1965 elections, Türkan Seçkin was elected as an MP from Edirne, becoming the first woman MP to be elected through a primary election. Having worked as a teacher before, Türkan Seçkin's background shed light on her activities. With various parliamentary questions and agenda meetings on agriculture, foreign policy, women's position in social life, education of young people, economy and municipality, she made her mark in the history of politics. Türkan Seçkin also encouraged many women to have a voice in society.
