dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu çalışma, Türk Polis Te`kilatının ilk üniformalı kadın polislerinden biri olan Zülal Boçkay'ın yaşamını değiştiren deneyimine odaklanarak kapsamlı ve detaylı bir şekilde incelemektedir. Araştırma, Teşkilatın Cumhuriyet dönemindeki kuruluşunu ve genişlemesine kısa bir bakış sunarak, 1933'te Türk kadınlarının Emniyet Teşkilatına girişini işaret eden önemli bir döneme vurgu yapmaktadır. Araştırma aynı zamanda toplumsal cinsiyetin genel kavramlarını ve polis teşkilatı içinde özel cinsiyet dinamiklerini kapsamaktadır. Makalede Zühal Boçkay'ın biyografik geçmişi, başarıları, etkisi ve Türk Polis Teşkilatındaki rolüne özel bir vurgu yapılarak polis teşkilatındaki cinsiyet rolleri ve kadınların güçlenmesine dair nüanslı bir bakış sunulmaktadır.
dc.description.abstractThis research examines, in great depth, the transformative experience of Zühal Boçkay, one of the first female uniformed police officers in the Turkish Police Organization. The study offers a concise synopsis of the Organization's founding and growth during the Republic era, highlighting a momentous occasion in 1933 that signified the admission of Turkish women into the Security Organization. The paper covers basic gender ideas as well as particular gender dynamics within the police organization. The essay presents a nuanced view on gender roles in the police force and women's empowerment by highlighting Zühal Boçkay's biographical background, achievements, influence, and role in the Turkish Police Organization.
