Vietnam Savaşı anılarıyla bir Türk: Mehmet Esen

1955 ve 1975 yılları arasında yaşanan Vietnam Savaşı, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ve Sovyetler Birliği’nin ideolojileri doğrultusunda Kuzey ve Güney Vietnam arasında başladı ve uluslararası bir hal aldı. Mehmet Esen, o dönemde savaş olmasına rağmen para biriktirme amacıyla bir yıl boyunca Vietnam’da bir elektrik teknisyeni olarak çalışmayı kabul etti ve 1967’de Vietnam’a geldi. Askeri Amerikan üssünde konaklayan Esen, Vietkong baskınları yüzünden çoğu kez yer değiştirdi ve zorlu hayat koşullarına maruz kaldı. Bu araştırmada Mehmet Esen’in ses kaydı, eşiyle yaptığımız röportaj ve eşine yolladığı mektuplar, oğullarının sağladığı anı defteri ve fotoğraflardan yararlanarak Mehmet Esen’in Vietnam’a savaş döneminde neden bulunduğu,nasıl gittiği, neler yaşadığı ve nasıl etkilendiği anlatılmıştır. Savaşın giderek arttığı dönemde türk bir elektrik teknisyeninin Vietnam’da bulunması, farklı bir perspektiften savaşın anlaşılması için büyük bir önem taşımaktadır.

The Vietnam War, which lasted from 1955 to 1975, began between North and South Vietnam following the ideologies of the United States and the Soviet Union and eventually became an international conflict. In order to save money, despite the ongoing war Mehmet Esen agreed to work as an electrical technician in Vietnam for a year. He arrived in Vietnam in 1967. Esen resided at an American military base, but because of Vietcong raids, he was forced to relocate frequently and endured difficult living conditions. This research describes why Mehmet Esen was in Vietnam during the war, how he got there, what he experienced, and how he was affected, using his voice records with Bahadır Başabak , an interview with his wife, the letters he sent to his wife, photograph and a memory book that his sons had. The presence of a Turkish electrical technician in Vietnam during the war period holds great importance for understanding the war from a different perspective.
