dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractGünümüzde Büyük Tiyatro olarak bilinen şevki Balmumcu Sergi Evi'nin yapımına Milli İktisat Cemiyeti'nin düzenlemiş olduğu bir yarışma sonucu 1934 yılında başlanmıştır. Mimar şevki Balmumcu'nun projesinin kabul edilmesi ile bina yıllarca sergi evi olarak hizmet vermiştir. 1948 yılında İsmet İnönü'nün de isteği ve Alman mimar Paul Bonatz'ın işçiliğiyle Opera Evi'ne dönüştürülmüştür. Opera Binası, açıldığı tarihten günümüze kadar önemli eserlerin sergilenmesine ev sahipliği yapmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe ġevki Balmumcu Exhibition House that now known as the Great Theater was founded as a result of a contest which National Economics Society organized in 1934. With the acceptance of architect ġevki Balmumcu's project, the building has served as exhibition house for many years. It was transformed into the Opera House in 1948 by Ġsmet Ġnönü's request and the work of the German architect Paul Bonatz. The Opera House has been hosting the most important works of art ever since it opened.en_US
