Piyade Albay Mehmet Tıbıkoğlu’nun gözünden Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı

Abstract

Kıbrıs adasında bağımsız bir cumhuriyet kurulduğunda kısa bir süreliğine de olsa Türkler ve Rumlar adada uyum içerisinde yaşadılar. Daha sonra adayı Yunanistan’a bağlamak isteyen Rumlar, 1960 yılından itibaren ada Türklerine karşı şiddetli eylemlere başladı ve bu durum artarak devam etti. Yaşanan olaylar üzerine Türkiye uluslararası alanda da beklediği desteği alamayınca garantör devlet sıfatıyla Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı’nı başlattı. Harekât için Kıbrıs’a ilk çıkarılan 50. Piyade Alayı’ndan Emekli Piyade Kıdemli Albay Mehmet Tıbıkoğlu, harekât süresince sahada bulunarak birçok olaya şahitlik etti. Bu araştırmada kısa bir tarihçeden sonra Kıbrıs Gazisi Kıdemli Albay Mehmet Tıbıkoğlu’nun gözünden harekâtın nasıl yürütüldüğü ve harekâtın etkileri incelendi.

Turkish and Greek Cypriots had lived in peace on the island for a short term after the establishment of the bi-national State of Cyprus in 1960. Soon afterward, the Greek Cypriots started using violence against Turkish people to annex the island to Greece. Their attacks increasingly continued. The reluctance of the international community urged Türkiye to start the Cyprus peace operation as the guarantor state. Retired Infantry Senior Colonel Mehmet Tıbıkoğlu was a member of the 50th Infantry Regiment, the first Turkish military unit to land on the island. He has witnessed many important cases during the war. After a brief historical introduction, this research paper examines how the Peace Operation is done and post-operation observations from the perspectives and testimonies of Senior Colonel Mehmet Tıbıkoğlu.
