dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractKadınların hukuk eğitimi almasına izin verilmediği bir dönemde doğup büyüyen Süreyya Ağaoğlu, gösterdiği çabalar sonucu İstanbul Hukuk Fakültesi’ne kabul edilmiş ve Türk kadınlarının hukukçu olmalarının önünü açmıştır. çalışmalarını yalnızca hukukî alanla sınırlı tutmamış, aynı zamanda sosyal çalışmalarda da bulunmuştur. Kurduğu derneklerden çocuk Dostları Derneği ile kimsesiz çocuklara sahip çıkmıştır, Türk Hukukçu Kadınlar Derneği aracılığıyla Türk hukukçu kadınlarını bir araya getirmiştir ve uluslararası alanda Türk kadınının temsilini sağlamıştır. Bu dernekler hâlâ faaliyet göstermektedir. Yaptığı meslekî ve sosyal çalışmalar ulusal ve uluslararası basın yoluyla kamuoyuna yansımıştır. Bütün bunlar göz önüne alındığında Türk tarihinde önemli bir figür olmuştur.en_US
dc.description.abstractBeing born in an era which women were not allowed to have education in law, Süreyya Ağaoğlu was accepted to Istanbul Faculty of Law through her efforts, and paved the way for Turkish women to become lawyers. She did not limit her work only to the field of law, but she was also engaged in social work. She was a member of the Association of Children's Friends (çocuk Dostları Derneği), which helped orphans, and Ağaoğlu brought Turkish lawyer women together through the Turkish Lawyers Women's Association (Türk Kadın Hukukçular Derneği) and represented Turkish women in the international area. These associations still operate. Her professional and social activities were reflected on national and international public opinion by media. Considering all this, she has been an important figure in Turkish history.en_US
