dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractSendikalar, çalışanların hakkını ve emeğini maddi ve manevi anlamda göz etmek amacıyla kurulan bağımsız kuruluşlardır. Bu anlamda bakıldığında varlıkları yadsınamaz ölçüde önemlidir. 1967 senesinde kurulan Türkiye Devrimci İşçi Sendikaları Konfederasyonu (DİSK), ülkemizdeki kayda değer işçi sendikalarından biridir. Bu araştırmada, sendikacılığın ne olduğuna ve önemine bir yanıt bulabilmek amacıyla bir dönem DİSK genel başkanlığı yapmış Süleyman Çelebi’nin biyografisi incelenmiştir. Başta sendikacılık hayatı olmak üzere, çocukluğu, görev aldığı sendikal oluşumlar, 12 Eylül 1980 dönemi yaşadıkları ve milletvekilli dönemi yaptığımız röportajdan ve çeşitli kaynaklardan yararlanılarak detaylı bir biçimde anlatılmıştır. Dönemin siyasetinin sendikacılık üzerindekini etkisini ve 12 Eylül Darbesi gibi toplumu derinden etkileyen siyasi olayları farklı bir bakış açısından anlayabilmek için Süleyman Çelebi’nin anlattıklarına kulak vermek önem taşımaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractTrade unions are independent organizations established to protect the rights and labour of employees in material and moral terms. In this sense, their existence is undeniably important. Founded in 1967, the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) is one of the notable labor unions in our country. In this research, the biography of Süleyman Çelebi, who was the chairman of DİSK for a period, was examined in order to find an answer to what unionism is and its importance. The unionist life, especially his childhood, the union formations he took part in, the period of September 12, 1980, and the parliamentary period were explained in detail by using our interview and various sources. It is important to listen to what Süleyman Çelebi tells in order to understand the impact of the politics of the period on unionism and the political events that deeply affected the society, such as the September 12 Coup, from a different perspective.en_US
