| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | 1990’lı yıllarda Türkiye siyasetindeki kadın siyasetçiler, seçimlerde ve partilerini temsilde azınlık konumundadır. 1994 yılında İzmir yerel seçimlerinde Narlıdere Belediye başkanı aday olan Türkan Miçooğulları, toplumdan aldığı çeşitli tepkilere rağmen siyasette var olan önemli bir kadın figürüdür. Miçooğulları’nın hayatı ve deneyimleri göz önünde bulundurularak 90’lar siyasetindeki kadın siyasetçilerin cinsiyetsizleştirilmesine odaklanılacaktır. Kadının siyasetteki görünürlüğünü artırma amacıyla verilen çabaların yeterliliği, Türkiye’de toplumun çeşitli bölgelerinde politikaya atılmış kadın siyasetçilere ve onların hem sosyoekonomik hem de sosyokültürel durumlarına göre değişmektedir. | |
| dc.description.abstract | The lack of female politicians in party membership and election results was one of the primary features of Turkish politics in the 1990s. A prominent female politician, Türkan Miçooğulları persists despite criticism from the public and those around her, particularly during the election. In the 1994 Izmir municipal elections, she campaigned as a candidate for president of Narlıdere. By focusing on the experiences and life of Türkan Miçooğulları, it will center on the de-genderization of women in politics. The effectiveness of efforts to increase awareness of women in politics varies depending on the socioeconomic and cultural origins of Turkish women politicians who are actively involved in politics. | |
