dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractTürk mimarisinin ve Türk mimarlarının önemli temsilcilerinden biri olan, 1940-2020 yılları arasında yaşamış ve hayatının büyük bir bölümünde önemli mimari eserlere imza atmış Ragıp Buluç, Başkente bölgeye adını veren Atakule gibi simge bir yapıt kazandırmıştır. Buluç’u yaşadığı dönemde üstün ve önemli kılan ön plandaki sanatçı karakteridir. Ragıp Buluç, yerel bir mimar olmaktan ziyade, evrensel olarak da birçok esere imza atmış, bu eserleri Türk ve İslam kültürünün dünyaya tanıtılmasında önemli rol oynamıştır. Eserlerinden en önemlileri; Japonya’da yapmış olduğu ve Expo 70’ Osaka, Japonya’dan 1.lik ödülü sahibi Türk Pavyonu, İstanbul Abdi İpekçi Arena, Expo 85’ Tsukaba Japonya’dan 1.lik alan Türk Pavyonu, Kopenhag, Danimarka’da bulunan İslam Kültür Merkezi, Expo 98’ Lizbon, Portekiz Türk Pavyonu, Keçiören, Ankara’da bulunan Cumhuriyet Kulesi ve en önemlisi Çankaya, Ankara’da bulunan Atakule’dir. Bu araştırmada, yaşadığı dönemde kendisinin verdiği çeşitli röportajlardan, yakın arkadaşlarından biri olan meslektaşı Kadri Atabaş ilegerçekleştirmiş olduğumuz röportaj ile hakkında yazılmış çeşitli makale ve gazete haberlerinden yararlanılarak edinilmiş, Ragıp Buluç’un kendisi, Atakule ile bağı ve Atakule’nin yapımı hakkında detaylı bilgiler yer almaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractRagıp Buluç, one of the most important representatives of Turkish architecture and Turkish architects, who lived between 1940-2020 and created important architectural works for most of his life, has brought the capital landmark like Atakule, which gave its name to the region. What makes Buluç supperior and more important from other architects is his artistic charecter. Rether then being a local architecture Ragıp Buluç made sevral universal works in different places on earth and those works played an important role in introducing Turkish and Islamic culture to the world. The most important of his works are; Turkish Pavilion, which was built in Japan and won the 1st prize for Expo 70’ Osaka, Japan, Istanbul Abdi İpekçi Arena, 1st prize from Expo 85’ Tsukuba Japan, Islamic Cultural Center in Cophenhagen, Denmark, Expo 98’ Lisbon, Portugal Turkish Pavillion, Keçiören, Republic Tower in Ankara and most importantly Atakule in Çankaya, Ankara. In this research, there are detailed information about Ragıp Buluç himself, his bond with Atakule and the construction of Atakule, which were obtained by using various interviews he gave during his lifetime, the interview we conducted with one of his close friends, his colleague Kadri Atabaş, and various articles and newspaper news about him.en_US
