Zakkumcu doktor Ziya Özel

Abstract

Bu araştırma yazısında, Türkiye’de 1980 ve 1990 tarihleri arasında kansere çare olduğu düşünülen ve Doktor Ziya Özel’in zakkum (Nerium Oleander) bitkisinin ekstresinden elde ettiği ilaç üzerinde durulacaktır. Özel ve onun geliştirdiği ilaç, Türk toplumunda ve Türkiye’nin bir dönem politik gündeminde yer edinmiştir. Araştırma yazısındaki temel amaç ilacın tıbbi özelliklerini kanıtlamak ya da Özel hakkında üretilen iddialar konusunda bir fikir birliğine varmak değildir. Onun yerine bu ilaç ve Özel ile ilgili tarihi olayları nesnel bir bakış açısıyla aktarmaktır. This paper researches a medication made from the Nerium Oleander- rosebay- extract which was developed by Dr. Ziya Özel, and it was thought and debated whether it is a cure for cancer in between the years of 1980 and 1990 in Turkey. In this time period, Ziya Özel and its cure for cancer made considerable impacts on both Turkish society and political life of Turkey. The aim for the project is neither proving medical properties of the cure nor reaching a consensus on whether claims Dr. Ziya Özel reproduced until recent times are valid. The main point here is to reflect the events with an objective perspective.
