dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBirinci Dünya Savaşı öncesinde Osmanlı ekonomisinin kötü hâlde olmasından en çok etkilenenlerden biri de Hemşinlilerdi. Ekonomik zorluklar sebebiyle Hemşinliler, başta Rusya olmak üzere diğer komşu ülkelere göç ettiler. Göçe giden Hemşinliler gittikleri yerlerde pastaneciliği öğrenirken geride kalanlar zorlu coğrafyalarında yaşamlarını devam ettirdiler. Sonradan Türkiye'ye dönen Hemşinliler ülkenin dört bir yanında pastaneler açtılar. Duman ailesi de bu göç serüvenini yaşayanlardan ve 1964'ten beri Damla Pastanesi'ni işletmektedirler. Bu çalışmada Duman ailesi üzerinden Hemşinlilerin göç öncesi hayatları, göç sürecinin nasıl geçtiği, Türkiye'ye döndükten sonraki hayatları, uyum süreçleri ve sürecin Hemşinlileri nasıl etkilediği ve Damla Pastanesi'nin tarihi ve bugünü anlatılmıştır.
dc.description.abstractHemsphin people were affected badly from the economic problems in Ottoman Empire prior to World War I. Due to economic problems, Hempshin people immigrated to Russia and the other neighbouring countries. The people learned pastry in Russia and rest of the families stayed in the Ottoman Empire and sustained their life in a stiff conditions. Hemsphin people set up lots of patisseries after they came back to Turkey. Likewise the other families, the earlier members of Duman family immigrated to other countries and they have worked Damla Patisserie since 1964. In this study, via Damla Patisserie, the lives of the Hemsphin people before the immigration, their lives in Russia, their lives after they came back to Turkey, the effects of immigration on Hemsphin people and the history& todays of the Damla Patisserie were explained.
