dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractTürklerin ilk yerleşim birimlerinden biri olarak bilinen Doğu Türkistan bölgesi başta Uygur Türkleri olmak üzere birçok millete ev sahipliği yapmıştır. Doğu Türkistan 1949 yılında Çin Halk Cumhuriyeti tarafından işgal edildikten sonra Çin Halk Cumhuriyeti’nin bu bölge üzerinde uyguladığı politikaların sonucu olarak birçok Uygur Türkü, Doğu Türkistanı terk ederek çeşitli ülkelere göç etmiştir. Doğu Türkistanı terk eden ailelerden biri olan Tümtürk ailesi önce Afganistan’a göç edip burada bir süre yaşadıktan sonra asıl hedefleri olan Türkiye’ye göç etmiştir. Bu çalışma kapsamında, Tümtürk ailesinin göç öncesi, esnası ve sonrasında yaşadıkları, Türkiye’ye uyum süreci ve ailenin günümüzdeki durumu incelenmiştir.
dc.description.abstractThe East Turkestan region, known as one of the first settlements of Turks, has hosted many nations, especially the Uighur Turks. After the invasion of the East Turkestan Republic, by the People's Republic of China in 1949, many Uyghur Turks abandoned East Turkestan and migrated to various countries in consequence of the policies implemented for this region by People’s Republic of China. Tümtürk family, was one of the families who abandoned East Turkestan and fled to Afghanistan. After living there for a while they emigrated to Turkey which was their primary destination to settle. In this framework pre-migration and during the migratio process of Tümtürk family, their adaptation to the conditions of Turkey and current situation of the family are examined.
