Abstract
In this thesis, the construction and characterization methods that use stable proper fractional representation for the solution of decentralized stabilization problem is presented in a unified manner. Four methods of construction are given starting with a right coprime fractional representation of the plant over the ring of stable transfer functions. One of these methods is a new construction procedure that exploits the Smith-McMillan canonical form. Connections between some of the characterization methods are explicitly shown.
