dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractOsmanlı 20. Yüzyılın başında Balkanlardan çekildiğinden beri tarih Müslümanlara ve Türklere karşı özellikle milliyetçilik kaynaklı çok çeşitli baskıya şahit olmuştur. 1950-1960 yılları arasında giderek artan baskılar pek çok aileyi kaçmaya, göç etmeye zorlamıştır. Yugoslavya‟nın Ohri şehrinde yaşayan ve tarımla uğraşan Şebboy ailesi, komşu ve yakın çevreleriyle olan ilişkilerinin iyi olmasına rağmen Yugoslavya hükümeti tarafından maruz kaldıkları ayrımcılık ve baskıdan dolayı göç etmek zorunda kaldı. Şebboy ailesinin Türkiye‟ye göçleri Ankara‟daki yakın akrabalarının daveti üzerine gerçekleşti ve bu sebeple Ankara‟ya yerleştiler. Ankara‟da çeşitli işlerle uğraşan Şebboy ailesinin ilk taşındıkları zamanlarda ailenin babası Vahid Şebboy‟un bakkal dükkanında çalıştı.
dc.description.abstractSince Ottoman Empire has abdicated from Balkans in the beginning of the 20th century history has been a witness of oppression against Turks and Muslims due to nationalism. The oppressions that has been increased between the years of 1950-1960 has forced people to people to escape and immigration. They lived in Ohrid, Yugoslavia and they did agriculture. Though they had good relations with their neighbors and close relatives, they had to immigrate because of the discrimination and the oppressions they faced. They moved to Turkey with the invitation of their relatives from Ankara. Family members worked at a local market in Ankara.
