dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract2. Dünya Savaşı sonrasında Türkiye'de özel yetenekli çocukların öğrenim görmesi gereken bir okul ihtiyacı olduğuna kanaat getirildi. Bu okullarda verilecek olan eğitim; içerik, seviye ve uygulamalar açısından diğer öğretim kurumlarından farklı olacak, bilimsel yöntemler ve ilkeler bizzat uygulamalı olarak gösterilecek, teorik ve pratik aynı anda yürütülecekti. Bu amaca yönelik ilk fen lisesi, 1964'te açılan Ankara Fen Lisesi oldu. 1982 yılında İstanbul Atatürk Fen Lisesi ve daha sonra ise 1983 yılında İhsan Kurt tarafından İzmit Fen lisesi kuruldu. İzmir Fen Lisesine sınavla gelen başarılı öğrenciler, akademik altyapısı olan deneyimli öğretmenlerden ders aldılar. Bu sayede gelen akademik başarının yanında, öğrencilerin tek boyutlu olarak değil çok boyutlu olarak yetiştirilmesi hedeflendi ve öğrencilere farklı disiplinlerde bakış açısı kazandırılmaya çalışıldı. Öğrenciler başta fen ve matematik alanları olmak üzere sosyal ve kültürel alanlardaki yarışmalarda da başarılar gösterdiler. Bu sayede İzmir Fen Lisesi, Türkiye'de mühendislik ve tıp alanlarında katkı sağlayacak, donanımlı ve başarılı mezunlar verdi.
dc.description.abstractAfter World War II, it was recognized that there was a need for a school in Turkey to educate gifted children. The education to be given in these schools; would be different from other educational institutions in terms of content, level and applications; scientific methods and principles would be shown as applied, and theoretical and practical would be carried out simultaneously. The first science high school established for this purpose was Ankara Science High School, which founded in 1964. In 1982, İstanbul AtatÜrk Science High School Zas founded, followed by İzmir Science High School in 1983 by İhsan Kurt. Successful students who passed the entrance exam for İzmir Science High School received education from experienced teachers with a strong academic background. In addition to academic success achieved in this way, the aim was to raise students in a multidimensional way, providing them with different perspectives in various disciplines. The students achieved success not only in the fields of science and mathematics but also in social and cultural competitions. As a result, İzmir Science High School has produced well-equipped and successful graduates who have made contributions in engineering and medicine fields in Turkey.
