Kayseri âşıklar kahvesi ve Âşık Meydanî

Âşıklık, 15. yüzyıldan günümüze ulaşan sözlü bir Türk halk edebiyatı geleneğidir. Osmanlı Devleti’nde kahvehane kültürüyle birlikte yaygınlaşan bu geleneğe gösterilen rağbet, 18. yüzyılda siyasi çöküşle birlikte azalmaya başlamıştır. Bu nedenle âşıklık geleneği İstanbul’dan Anadolu’ya yönelmiştir. Kayseri’de âşıklık geleneğinin önemli bir temsilcisi olan Âşık Meydanî, bu geleneği sürdürebilmek amacıyla Âşıklar Kahvesi’ni kurmuştur. 1982 yılında kurulan kahve, Kayseri’nin kültürel yapısının şekillendirmiş, yeni kuşakları âşıklık yolculuklarında desteklemiş ve yakın yörelerdeki âşıkların buluşma yeri olmuştur. Âşıklığı sürdürmeye yönelik faaliyetlerde bulunan Âşıklar Kahvesi Türkiye çapında ve Avrupa Birliği tarafından fark edilmiştir. Bu faaliyetlere rağmen gelenek eskisi kadar rağbet görmemektedir.

Minstrelsy is an oral Turkish folk literature tradition that has survived since the 15th century. The popularity of minstrelsy, becoming widespread with the coffeehouse culture in the Ottoman period, declined with the political disorders in the 18th century. Hence, the minstrelsy tradition moved from Istanbul to Anatolia. Minstrel Meydanî, a prominent figure of the tradition in Kayseri, established Âşıklar Kahvesi to sustain this tradition. Founded in 1982, this coffeehouse has effectively shaped the cultural structure of Kayseri, aided new generations in the journey of minstrelsy, and has become a meeting place for minstrels from nearby regions. Âşıklar Kahvesi gained recognition both countrywide and from the European Union for its efforts to sustain the tradition. Despite all these efforts, minstrelsy has lost the popularity it once achieved.
