dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu makale, 1969 yılında Batı Trakya'dan Türkiye'ye göç eden seçkin bir tarih profesörü olan Halit Eren'in hayatına derinlemesine bir bakış sunacaktır. Gümülcine'deki erken yıllarına odaklanarak, Halit Eren'in hayatını şekillendiren kültürel, sosyal ve eğitimsel unsurları ortaya koyacaktır. Makale daha sonra, göç sürecinin karmaşık ayrıntılarına dalıp, bu hayati dönemi belirleyen zorlukları, kararları ve deneyimleri keşfedecektir. Ayrıca, Halit Eren'in göç sonrası yaşamına dair iç perspektifler sunarak, akademik katkılarına ve yolculuğunun akademik çabalarını ve kişisel gelişimini nasıl etkilediğine dikkat çekilecektir. Ardından Halit Eren'in sosyal yaşamına ve Türkiye'deki nüanslı adaptasyon sürecine odaklanarak, onun göç sonrası yeni toplumsal ve akademik zeminde nasıl yol aldığını ve entegre olduğunu anlamamıza olanak sağlanacaktır.
dc.description.abstractThis article will provide an in-depth look at the life of Halit Eren, a distinguished history professor who emigrated from Western Thrace to Turkey in 1969. Focusing on his early years in Gümülcine, it will reveal the cultural, social and educational elements that shaped Halit Eren's life. The article will then delve into the complex details of the migration process and explore the challenges, decisions and experiences that determined this vital period. In addition, by providing internal perspectives on Halit Eren's post-migration life, attention will be drawn to his academic contributions and how his journey has affected his scholarly pursuits and personal growth. Then, by focusing on Halit Eren's social life and the nuanced adaptation process in Turkey, it will allow us to understand how he made his way and integrated in the new social and academic ground after migration.
