Most of the Ossetians, Circassians, Chechens, Ingushs and many other North Caucasian people living in Turkey today migrated from the North Caucasus to the Ottoman Empire after the Russian-Circassian War in 1864 and the First World War between 1914 and 1918. The Kushate tribe and Ata family, which were included in the Ossetian immigrants, first made a long journey from the North Caucasus to Georgia, from Georgia to Batumi, from Batumi to Kars, and set foot in the Ottoman lands from Ossetia during this migration. Later, they went to Erzurum because of the problems caused by the Armenians in the region. In 1877, the Ottomans and Russia fought in Eastern Anatolia, and because of this war, communication between the Kushate tribe and other family members in Ossetia was cut off. In the early 1900s, Temirbolat from Ossetia was sent to the Ottoman Empire as an ambassador to find and reconnect with his family, and he was successful. At the feast organized for this reunion, he fell in love with Jalihan and took her with him on his return to Ossetia, and thus the Ata family began to form. In the First World War, Temirbolat did not want to fight on the side of the Russians, so as his family did in 1864, he immigrated to Georgia again, and from Georgia to Kars, Sarıkamış, with his newly founded family, and later take the surname Ata.
