dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractTürkiye’de Cumhuriyetin ilanından sonra kadının toplumda yer kazanabilmesine dair yapılan değişikliklerden birisi kadınların polislik mesleğindeki yerlerinin artırılmasına dair yapılan çalışmalardı.1932 yılında çıkarılan 2049 sayılı Polis Teşkilatı Kanunu gereğince kadınlar Türk Polis Teşkilatı’nın bir parçası olma hakkını kazandı. Her ne kadar ilk kadın polisler 1 Nisan 1962 yılında Ankara Polis Okulu’ndan mezun olsalar da kadınların polis okullarına sistematik bir şekilde kabul edilmeleri 1979 yılında gerçekleşti. Sevgi Öner 1973 yılında Polis Eğitim Merkezi’nden mezun oldu ve çalışmaya başladı. Kadın polislerin sistematik bir şekilde okula kabul edilmeden önceki dönemde eğitim alan ve çalışan Sevgi Öner, eğitim ve çalışma hayatında pek çok zorluk yaşadı. Sevgi Öner’in deneyimleri 1972’den günümüze kadınların polislik mesleğindeki yerlerindeki değişime ışık tutmaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn Turkey, after the declaration of the Republic, one of the changes that were made for women to have a place in the society is increasing the women’s place in being police. In 1932, following the Law on Police Force no. 2049 women gain the right to be a part of the Turkish Political Force. Even though the first women police were graduated from Ankara Police School on April 1, 1962, the systematic registration of women to police schools started in 1979. Sevgi Öner graduated from Police Training Center in 1973 and started working. Sevgi Öner who graduated and started working before the systematic approval of women police to police schools had several difficulties in her business life. Sevgi Öner’s experiences shed light on the change in women’s place in the police job from 1972 to today.en_US
