UmutThe importance of the Turkish defense firms that sell various products to the Turkish Armed Forces has been gradually increasing in the last decade, especially after the September 11, 2001. Turkey has to pay more attention to the national defense industry, because of the threats and serial crisis in the region. The companies in defense industry have very important role in economy however; decreasing the defense expenditures will accelerate the rate of economic growth. As a result, the strategies for the financial growth of defense firms are very crucial. The purpose of this study is to identify how Turkish Defense Industry financed growth in sales and assets during the fiveyear period and how they should finance growth in order to realize a respectable sustainable growth rate.Item Open Access Financial performance of Turkish defense firms: a comparative analysis(2000) Coşkun, EnginThe importance of the Turkish defense firms that sell various products to the Turkish Armed Forces has been gradually increasing in the last decade. Furthermore, companies in defense industry have an important role in economy. Sales to the Turkish Armed Forces make up about 40% of their total revenues on average. However, the Turkish defense industry has not been examined financially yet, so the main objective of this study is to determine the financial performance of the Turkish defense industry firms by using financial ratios, and compare it with the manufacturing sector. Atatürk önderliğinde, Cumhuriyet döneminde temelleri atılan Türk Savunma Sanayisi, Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı ve diğer birçok dış etkenlerden dolayı teşvik alarak bugünkü haline gelmiştir. Eskiden dışarıdan lisans alıp üretim yapan, özgün çalışması olmayan bu sanayi, bugün bünyesinde dünya çapında adından söz ettiren Aselsan, Havelsan, TAİ gibi milli şirketlerle özgün tasarımlar, projeler ve AR-GE çalışmaları yapıyor. Yakın gelecekte dışa bağımlı olan orduyu, milli imkanlarla bu bağımlılığından kurtarmayı amaçlayan Türk Savunma Sanayisi, devletin de desteğiyle hem ordu ihtiyaçlarını karşılıyor hem de tüm dünyaya milli ürünlerini satıyor. Geçmişten günümüze kadar uzun yol kat eden Türk Savunma Sanayisinin geleceği de oldukça parlak duruyor. Projenin amacı, Türk Savunma Sanayisinin zaman içerisindeki ilerleme ve gelişme sürecini açıklamaktır. Bu nedenle, bazı uluslararası önem taşıyan olaylara değinilecek ve finansal açıdan da bu sanayi alanına verilen değerden bahsedilecektir.
