Item Open Access Comparative study of an EKF-based parameter estimation and a nonlinear optimization-based estimation on PMSM system identification(MDPI AG, 2021-09-25) Sel, Artun; Sel, Bilgehan; Coskun, Umit; Kasnakoğlu, CoskuIn this study, two different parameter estimation algorithms are studied and compared. Iterated EKF and a nonlinear optimization algorithm based on on-line search methods are imple mented to estimate parameters of a given permanent magnet synchronous motor whose dynamics are assumed to be known and nonlinear. In addition to parameters, initial conditions of the dynami cal system are also considered to be unknown, and that comprises one of the differences of those two algorithms. The implementation of those algorithms for the problem and adaptations of the methods are detailed for some other variations of the problem that are reported in the literature. As for the computational aspect of the study, a convexity study is conducted to obtain the spherical neighborhood of the unknown terms around their correct values in the space. To obtain such a range is important to determine convexity properties of the optimization problem given in the estimation problem. In this study, an EKF-based parameter estimation algorithm and an optimization-based method are designed for a given nonlinear dynamical system. The design steps are detailed, and the efficacies and shortcomings of both algorithms are discussed regarding the numerical simulations.Item Open Access Markov modulated periodic arrival process offered to an ATM multiplexer(IEEE, 1993-11-12) Akar, Nail; Arıkan, ErdalWhen a superposition of on/off sources is offered to a deterministic server, a particular queueing system arises whose analysis has a significant role in ATM based networks. Periodic cell generation during active times is a major feature of these sources. In this paper a new analytical method is provided to solve for this queueing system via an approximation to the transient behavior of the nD/D/1 queue. The solution to the queue length distribution is given in terms of a solution to a linear differential equation with variable coefficients. The technique proposed here has close similarities with the fluid flow approximations and is amenable to extension for more complicated queueing systems with such correlated arrival processes. A numerical example for a packetized voice multiplexer is finally given to demonstrate our results.Item Open Access Model based anticontrol of chaos(IEEE, 2003) Morgül, ÖmerWe will consider model based anticontrol of chaotic systems. We consider both continuous and discrete time cases. We first assume that the systems to be controlled are linear and time invariant. Under controllability assumption, we transform these systems into some canonical forms. We assume the existence of chaotic systems which has similar forms. To obtain any desirable behavior, the system parameters are effectively modified using state feedback. The system states used in the feedback are estimated through a nonlinear observer. The application of the proposed method is illustrated for Duffing and Van der Pol oscillators.Item Open Access On algebraic properties of general proper decentralized systems(Elsevier, 1993) Yu, R.; Sezer, M. E.; Gao, W.The new concepts of the decentralized output feedback variable polynomial, the decentralized output feedback cycle index of general proper systems, and the geometric multiplicities of decentralized fixed modes are introduced. Their computational methods and some algebraic properties are presented. It is shown that the decentralized output feedback cycle index of a general proper system is equal to one when the system has no fixed modes or equal to the maximum of the geometric multiplicities of its decentralized fixed modes. It is also shown that almost all decentralized output feedback can be used to make the zeros of the decentralized variable polynomial distinct, and disjoint from any given finite set of points on the complex plane.
