Item Open Access Acoustical comfort evaluation in enclosed public spaces with a central atrium : a case study in food court of CEPA Shopping Center, Ankara(2009) Dökmeci, Papatya NurPhysical comfort requirements of users as thermal, visual, and acoustic comfort should be considered and studied in detail when designing and planning public spaces. The subjective auditory perception needs to be evaluated parallel with the objective acoustical incidences in a space. The food court area of CEPA Shopping Center with an atrium and a glass dome ceiling, in the capital city of Turkey, Ankara is chosen for the case. The aim of this study is to investigate acoustical parameters of the space via computer simulation program and examine the effect of architectural features of the space namely; central atrium, glass dome and the existing material applications. Considering the relationship between the users’ noise annoyance and the equivalent continuous sound pressure level (Leq) is also intended in this study. The research techniques are computer simulations, noise measurements and questionnaires. Acoustical parameters; reverberation time (RT), early decay time (EDT), sound transmission index (STI) and equivalent continuous sound pressure level (Leq) values are obtained by simulations and measurements. Questionnaires are used for understanding the noise annoyance and auditory perception of the users. The results show that the noise annoyance ratings correlate well with the Leq variances. The most dominantly perceived and the most annoying sound found to be correlated with the highest percentage for speech noise in the food court. Decay time (T30, EDT) results of the space that are derived from the ODEON 6.5 software are found to be very long as expected with a central atrium, glass dome ceiling and highly reflected material applications. In addition, the food court area is defined to be poor in terms of STI. High Leq values as well as long decay times that are present in the space are noted as factors increasing the noise annoyance of the users.Item Open Access Evaluation of interior shopping mall design within the context of urban public realm(1993) Parlar, Z. MerveThis work puts forth a different point of view for the evaluation of the design of interior shopping malls. In this approach, public interior spaces are defined and analyzed as a component of the urban public realm. The problems and concepts of interior shopping malls are analyzed in a historical perspective, after briefly introducing the relationship between the city and the public realm, the city and the interior shopping mall. Thus the aspects of urban public realm and the design criteria of interior shopping malls are obtained and defined. Finally, based on these aspects and criteria, interior shopping malls in Ankara are analyzed. The stages of development and typologies derived from these analyses are discussed in teims of the context of urban public realm. All researches and analysis aim to form a basis for an interdisciplinary study, and to draw attention to the interaction of 'exterior space', 'building mass' and 'interior space'.Item Open Access Walking patterns in shopping malls : the case of Ankamall(2013) Paykoç, EdaSearch for new noninvasive methods for diseases has been significant question for years. Therapeutic properties of light are combined with proper chromophore in order to create fundamentals of photodynamic therapy which is a new treatment modality for cancer and other various non-oncological diseases. The method relies on the activation of photosensitizer by using light of certain wavelength and generation of cytotoxic singlet oxygen species in response. Reactive oxygen species kill the targeted tissue within smaller effective diameter through apoptosis/ necrosis mechanism. Through this method, new PDT agents can be proposed and their properties can be tuned by manipulation of other photophysical processes. In this thesis, synthesis, characterization novel water soluble, near IR absorbing Bodipy photosensitizer will be discussed. As opposed to other photosensitizers in literature, this photosensitizer is rationally designed to have singlet oxygen generation capability only in cancer tissue as a result of glutathione triggered activation.
