Item Open Access Bant genişliği kısıtı altında videonun en iyi iletimi(IEEE, 2006-04) Gürses, E.; Akar, G. B.; Akar, NailIn this paper, we propose an optimal video streaming framework using retransmissions based on the theory of Markov Decision Processes (MDP). Using MDPs, we calculate average reward optimal policies so as to maximize the on time delivery probability of video frames in the transmission window while conforming to network-imposed available bandwidth constraints. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated by comparing the results with theoretically obtained rate-distortion curves corresponding to the optimal policies by using the distortion model in [2] © 2006 IEEE.Item Open Access Mapping time-varying IP traffic to flexible optical paths in flexgrid optical networks(Springer New York LLC, 2015) Tunc C.; Akar, N.A spectrum slot is the frequency range allocated to a single channel within a flexible grid, and its width needs to be an integer multiple of the so-called slot width granularity. The slot width of the spectrum slots to be used for an optical path in flexgrid optical networks can be adjusted in time to align with time-varying client traffic demand for both bandwidth and energy efficiency purposes. However, frequent adjustment of the slot width of optical paths places substantial signaling load on the control plane. In this paper, an online slot width adjustment mechanism is proposed for flexgrid optical networks under slot width update rate constraints in order to maintain the associated signaling load at acceptable levels. Real traffic traces are used to validate the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism.Item Open Access MPLS automatic bandwidth allocation via adaptive hysteresis(Elsevier, 2010-11-29) Akar, N.; Toksöz, M. A.MPLS automatic bandwidth allocation (or provisioning) refers to the process of dynamically updating the bandwidth allocation of a label switched path on the basis of actual aggregate traffic demand on this path. Since bandwidth updates require signaling, it is common to limit the rate of updates to reduce signaling costs. In this article, we propose a model-free asynchronous adaptive hysteresis algorithm for MPLS automatic bandwidth allocation under bandwidth update rate constraints. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach by comparing it against existing schemes in (i) voice and (ii) data traffic scenarios. The proposed method can also be used in more general GMPLS networks.Item Open Access Trajectory control of a quadrotor using a control allocation approach(IEEE, 2017) Zaki, H.; Ünel, M.; Yıldız, YıldırayA quadrotor is an underactuated unmanned aerial vehicle with four inputs to control the dynamics. Trajectory control of a quadrotor is a challenging task and usually tackled in a hierarchical framework where desired/reference attitude angles are analytically determined from the desired command signals, i.e. virtual controls, that control the positional dynamics of the quadrotor and the desired yaw angle is set to some constant value. Although this method is relatively straightforward, it may produce large and nonsmooth reference angles which must be saturated and low-pass filtered. In this work, we show that the determination of desired attitude angles from virtual controls can be viewed as a control allocation problem and it can be solved numerically using nonlinear optimization where certain magnitude and rate constraints can be imposed on the desired attitude angles and the yaw angle need not be constant. Simulation results for both analytical and numerical methods have been presented and compared. Results for constrained optimization show that the flight performance is quite satisfactory.
