Item Open Access Generation Y employees: the role of psychological empowerment on the relationship between emotional intelligence and interpersonal citizenship behaviors(Centre for Promoting Ideas, 2016) Aydogmus, C.The present study aims to propose and test an integrative model that considers the mediating effects of Generation Y employees’ psychological empowerment (PE) on the relationships between their emotional intelligence (EI) and interpersonal citizenship behaviors (ICB). The model was tested on a sample of 477 Generation Y employees working in IT sector. For the indicators of employees’ EI, Wong and Law’s model, involving ‘self-emotion appraisal’, ‘others’ emotional appraisal’, ‘use of emotion’ and ‘regulation of emotion’, has been applied in the study. Hierarchical regression analyses postulated that EI and ICB were mediated by PE. The relationships between use of emotion and ICB were fully mediated by PE, while the relationships between self-emotion appraisal, others’ emotional appraisal and regulation of emotion and ICB were partially mediated by PE. The findings indicate that organizations should focus more on enhancing PE of Generation Y employees, which is the underlying effect between their EI and ICB.Item Open Access Perceptions of transformational leadership and job satisfaction: The roles of personality traits and psychological empowerment(Cambridge University Press, 2018) Aydogmus, C.; Camgoz, S. T.Through two studies, this paper investigates the moderating effects of personality traits (i.e., extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness and neuroticism) and the mediating effect of psychological empowerment on the relationship between perceived transformational leadership and job satisfaction. Study 1 searches whether personality traits moderate the effects of perceived transformational leadership on followers' job satisfaction. Using a sample of 221 R&D employees employed by information technology organizations, the results of Study 1 indicate that the more conscientious the employee, the stronger the relationship between perceived transformational leadership and job satisfaction. Study 2 explores whether psychological empowerment mediates the effects of perceived transformational leadership on followers' job satisfaction. Based on data from 348 academics, the results support the mediating role of psychological empowerment on job satisfaction, in that when employees perceive their leader as transformational they feel more psychologically empowered, which in turn increases job satisfaction levels. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.Item Open Access Servant leadership and voice behavior in higher education(Hacettepe Üniversitesi, 2015) Erkutlu, H.; Chafra, JamelThis study examines the relationship between servant leadership and voice behavior and the mediating roles of psychological empowerment and psychological safety on that relationship in higher education. The study sample encompasses a total of 793 faculty members along with their deans from randomly selected 10 state universities in İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Kayseri, Konya, Bursa, Samsun and Gaziantep during 2012-2013 spring semester. Faculty member’s perceptions of psychological empowerment, psychological safety and voice behavior were measured using the psychological empowerment scale developed by Spreitzer (1995), the psychological safety scale developed by Edmondson (1999) and van Dyne and LePine’s (1998) voice behavior scale respectively. Ehrhart's (2004) servant leadership scale was used to assess faculty dean’s perception of the servant leadership. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between servant leadership and voice behavior and mediating roles of psychological empowerment and safety on that relationship.
