Item Open Access Beyond the meeting: How community activists construe idea transfer from intercommunity encounters-The cases of Northern Ireland and Kosovo(2011) Ploss, K.Intercommunity dialogue encounters are a crucial tool for constructive conflict resolution. This research examines grassroots dialogue encounters with regard to the societal position of the participants, as well the situation 'on the ground' as influential to the transfer process. Interviews in Northern Ireland and Kosovo with community activists stressed the effectiveness of personal characteristics of dialogue participants when it came to transfer. Moreover, the readiness - affected by socio-economic conditions as well as external/secondary conflict parties - of the peer group to listen to its participant seemed fundamental. © 2011 Martinus Nijhoff Publishers.Item Restricted Dilin egemenliği(1995) Baydur, MemetItem Open Access The problem of Northern Ireland as a case study of first world nationalism(Bilkent University, 2001) Gür, Asaf ÇınarThis thesis analyzes the challenges presented by ethnic movements in the first world to the sovereignty rights of nation-states. Modern states, that erased the former identities of their native populations, saw with the termination of the Cold War, the resurrection of those past identities, claiming self-determination. Some movements were successful in seceding and establishing new states. Whereas some other ethnic movements reached accommodations with power devolution mechanisms. However those that have not been able to achieve both, experienced continuous ethnic strife in the political sphere. The thesis explores the Northern Irish case as a First World nationalism that has not been able to achieve either. The Irish case is analyzed in order to identify reasons behind the existence and emergence of First World ethnic nationalisms.
