    Technique for reconstructing a surface shape for measuring coordinates

    This paper describes a method of projecting interference fringes as one of the most accessible techniques for measuring the coordinates of objects and scenes that can be used when solving inverse problems in dynamic holographic display, where the coordinates need to be measured in order to compute diffraction structures when reconstructing three-dimensional images. A comparative analysis is presented of the experimental results obtained with successive projections of interference patterns with two different periods, using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer in coherent light and a micromirror projector with digital generation of fringes in white light. The use of the method is limited by the size of the objects and scenes. The possibilities of using more refined methods, including the holographic approach to phase reconstruction, are discussed. © 2006 Optical Society of America.

    Tunable ring-coupled Mach-Zehnder interferometer based on lithium niobate

    The fabrication and characterization are reported of a Fano resonance-based electro-optically tunable ring resonator-coupled Mach-Zehnder interferometer device based on a chalcogenide-lithium niobate hybrid waveguide system. The experiments reveal inherent asymmetric lineshapes that can be flipped to a near symmetrical resonance by applying a dc voltage of ~10 V across the electrode at the MZI non-resonator arm. Further increase in voltage yields the reverse of initial asymmetry. The optical filter-based transfer-matrix model easily explains the experimental data and indicates ways to further enhance the usability of such architecture. © 2014 Taylor and Francis.

    Where are the edge-states near the quantum point contacts? A self-consistent approach

    Abstract In this work, we calculate the current distribution, in the close vicinity of the quantum point contacts (QPCs), taking into account the Coulomb interaction. In the first step, we calculate the bare confinement potential of a generic QPC and, in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field, obtain the positions of the incompressible edge states (IES) taking into account electron–electron interaction within the Thomas–Fermi theory of screening. Using a local version of Ohm’s law, together with a relevant conductivity model, we also calculate the current distribution. We observe that, the imposed external current is confined locally into the incompressible strips. Our calculations demonstrate that, the inclusion of the electron–electron interaction, strongly changes the general picture of the transport through the QPCs.
